Opening this week! @sparkartfair is returning for the second time this Thursday. Hosted in Vienna’s historic Marx Halle. The architecture and open layout of the fair provide each of the galleries with equal sized booths, creating a unique experience for the visitors.
SPARK Art Fair focuses on solo presentations from over 80 international galleries. The main aim is to put the artists at the centre of the fair and create a mix of emerging and established artists from around the world.
As well as the solo and gallery presentations, the fair will also include 3 curated sections: “Spark Expanded” focusing on the bulky, ephemeral or experimental, “Photography” highlighting contemporary female photographer and “The Fourth Wall”, curated by Fiona Liewehr, dedicated to multidisciplinary artists.
Stay up to date on all art fair news on our exclusive database!
We had so much fun at @theotherartfair opening this week! Located in London’s Truman Brewery the fair selects artists to exhibit their own work and allows visitors to meet the creators and learn about their practices. Here are some of our favourites from the evening!
1. Brighton based artist @emilykirby_art told us about her beautiful abstracted, figurative paintings. The sense of place and dreamy colours in her paintings are inspired by time spent living in Spain and Zambia.
2. Based between the UK and Albania, we chatted with @moragcaister about her portrait practice. We especially loved her self portrait displayed on the exterior wall of her booth.
3. We had a fascinating conversation with @lisapriceart about her watercolour paints which she creates herself by foraging for natural pigments around the UK!
4. @Simon.mccheung ‘s photo works are beautiful, playful and surreal. Each of them seemed to tell a story that you could get lost in.
5. We particularly loved @jobeattie_artist’s ‘women without a voice’ series. Her practice involves sewing portraits, which are then painted and finally set in resin. So unusual and so effective!
Thank you so much to all of the artists who took the time to speak to us. For anyone who would like to visit @theotherartfair London 2022 is open until tomorrow evening. Don’t miss it!
@theotherartfair London opens this week in the famous Truman Brewery. Created in 2011, the brand hosts 8 international fairs annually in Chicago, Dallas, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Sydney, Melbourne and Toronto.
Presented by Saatchi Art, TOAF differs from other art fairs in that artists, rather than galleries, present their works independently, allowing the audience to buy works directly from the artists themselves. It is a wonderful fair for young collectors and emerging artists to expand their networks.
The fair presents roughly 120 artists at each edition but alongside it, the fair offers a dynamic programme of events which, in the past, has included immersive installations and live hand-poked tattoos!
If you are interested in learning more about the Other Art Fair London then make sure to check out our previous interview with the fair’s manager, @anouka.pedley!
Today in @artdubai, I'm taking you to the booth of another gallery I love, Galerie Templon. For this 2022 edition of the fair, they present a nice selection of pieces by mid career and emerging artists such as @philippecognee or @abdelkader.benchamma.
My art crush? This monumental painting on cardboard by @omarbastudio - Superman and The Constitution I.
Make sure you don't miss it if you're at the fair!
Since 2015, @mathieutemplon has been managing the Brussels space opened by Galerie Templon two years before. Since then, he has been introducing novelty and audacity while remaining faithful to the ADN of the Parisian gallery.

artfairmag is all about art fairs worldwide. We provide the only global art fair database that lists each and every international show taking place around the world. It truly is the perfect tool to plan your next fair visit. We gather in one dedicated page the most relevant information about the fair so you don’t need to search on endless separate websites to find what you want to know. Moreover, we never copy the press releases word for word. We write complete and personnal descriptions oursleves. Finally, we collect exclusif insights from the fair directors so that or visitors really understand the spirit of the show.
Because gallery owners are the beatting heart of art fairs, we recently added a section with interviews with blue-chip galleries. These interviews, which include an introductory text and 6 or 7 questions, allow art enthusiasts to discover or rediscover some of the most influential art dealers.
Popular art fairs
These spectacular trade shows which bring together collectors, dealers, art advisors, curators, artists and enthusiastic crowds are real temporary exhibitions showcasing a wide range of treasures. Their popularity has exploded in the two last decades. The number of international art fairs increased more than fourfold between 1980 and 2020. Public interest has grown at the same rate. Wether they are seasoned collectors, first-time buyers or simply art enthusiasts, wether they come from the art market or not, visitors always alsk for more. Hundred of thousands of them visit the art fairs annually.
art fairs near me
Besides art fairs taking place in major cities like New York, Paris, London or Berlin, the global art market has expanded and art shows have emerged all over the world, in India, China, Japan, South America and in the UAE, amongst others. Young art fairs as KIAF in Seoul, ARTBO in Bogota, 1:54 in Marrakech or Art X Lagos in Nigeria have quickly built a name. This proliferation of fairs is an excellent barometer of the influence of these new artistic hubs.
art fairs, galleries and artists
Art fairs are a great meeting place for collectors and all those involved in the art world. They play a major role in galleries’ economic health and, by extension, in the living artists’ career. Exploring art fairs is a great way to take the pulse of the global art market. Gallery owners represent a essential actor in art fairs. That is the reason why artfairmag regularly interviews some of the most talented and influent art dealers in their own field. Don’t miss out on these exclusive interviews!
When the coronavirus struck in December 2019, the art market was not at all prepared to face the unprecedented challenges that would follow. All fairs were forced to postpone or cancel their 2020 edition. But some were able to bounce back quickly by creating digital fairs. Art Basel Hong Kong launched its Online Viewing Room in March, paving the way for other fairs. The initially mixed and then growing success of these virtual fairs really brought the art market into the digital age. artfairmag has always kept its database up to date and added all the online viewing rooms to it. More than ever, we are committed to supporting fairs in these unprecedented times by giving them more visibility. This is why we propose to their directors to add exclusive insights to their page.
